Chinese President Xi Jinping has wrapped up his visit to Myanmar on 18 January with the signing of a few multi-billion dollar infrastructure deals, as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, including one particular deal for a strategically important port in the Indian Ocean. YANGON GOVERNMENT INKS US$750 MILLION CONCESSION AGREEMENT WITH MALAYSIAN CONGLOMERATE

Yangon’s regional government has signed a concession agreement worth $750 million with BDS Smart City Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Berjaya Land Berhad (BLand), one of the largest conglomerates in Malaysia to develop a housing and mixed-use project in Myanmar’s commercial hub, Yangon. BLand estimates the total development cost of the project to come up to $614.9 million.
